SYNOPSIS:
Khalida Popal is an Afghan football player fighting discrimination and promoting women’s rights through football. Telling the story of two generations who stood together in the aftermath of the Taliban regime and the ensuing war, Khalida established the first women’s national football team in Afghanistan. In 2011 she had to flee from her home country due to death threats, and now lives in Denmark. She continues her fight for women’s rights, and has established the non-profit organization GirlPower that raises awareness of gender inequality and the empowerment of women through sports—especially for minority groups and refugees.

DIRECTOR BIO:
Nina Holmgren is a Danish director, who started off her career as a one-woman-army. One day she picked up a camera and began filming. She has spend a lot of time in the documentary and art world. She loves to find the beauty in what the rest of us might find appalling. Her film for the clothing brand Le fix “Club 99.7” premiered on Nowness and was shortlisted at a variety of festivals, notably Cannes Lions and won best branded content at the One Show X Free The Bid in New York.
